HFHBW Named One of Top 3 Affiliates in 2009

Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Area, was recently honored as an Affiliate of the Year Habitat by Habitat for Humanity International.

The Bay-Waveland affiliate was chosen from a field of nominees from across the U.S. based on its service in a community with a population less than 50,000. The award honors affiliates who demonstrate creativity, innovation, and productivity in their efforts to eliminate substandard housing.

“Habitat for Humanity was able to help a record number of families in need of homes this year,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “That was due, in large part, to the unwavering commitment of affiliates to continue their work in communities. The ‘Pioneer in Excellence’ awards allow us to recognize extraordinary levels of determination and achievement and to thank those who so faithfully carry out our mission.”

“We are honored to receive this award on behalf of our community,” said Wendy McDonald, Executive Director of Bay-Waveland Habitat. “With the help of volunteers, donors, sponsors and friends we are rebuilding hopes, lives and dreams here in Hancock County, Mississippi.”

Since 2006, Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity has helped to make homeownership possible for more than 120 families, by partnering with them to build attractive, comfortable, energy-efficient, environmentally responsible houses that are also affordable.
