| Waveland Woman Gets New Home |
|

By DONNA MELTON - dmelton@sunherald.com
A Waveland woman living in an RV for three years with her dog and two cats cut the ribbon to her new home Thursday.
Hurricane Katrina left Eagle Finegan homeless in 2005 when it covered the house she was living in with 28 feet of water. Finegan joined construction workers and staff from Bay-Waveland Area Habitat for Humanity and Habitat International on Thursday as representatives of Lowe’s gave her a new Katrina cottage that had been displayed at the store in Waveland since 2006.

Lowe’s, a national partner with Habitat, donated the cottage and provided $10,000 for final construction to prepare the home for Finegan. It was moved from Lowe’s to Bayside Park in Bay St. Louis on Wednesday. Finegan will continue her investment of 250 “sweat equity” hours to Habitat while workers prepare the cottage for her and her pets to move in, said Dave Walker, director of communications for Bay- Waveland Habitat. “Some five years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, we are reminded that there are still those who can’t enjoy the comforts of permanent housing and are proud that we were able to work with Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity to donate a Lowe’s Katrina Cottage and a grant for this new home,” said district manager Rick Cook. |
