Hancock County welcomes volunteers for 2008 CWP

Local residents warmly greeted Habitat volunteers and partner families to the Diamondhead community during the recent 2008 Carter Work Project. The collaborative efforts of many different community groups and individuals contributed to the success of this project.

Diamondhead: The Diamondhead Architectural Committee worked with Habitat on an expedited basis so that the lots would be ready for the build. Each of the five main churches in Diamondhead (United Methodist, Southern Baptist, Episcopal, Community, and Catholic) sponsored one day of the build, providing morning devotions, volunteers and golf carts to shuttle volunteers and others around the build site.

One Diamondhead resident even donated 3 of the lots needed for the new homes! On the day of the Carters' visit to the build site, the Diamondhead Garden Club provided beautiful table decorations for each table in the V.I.P. tent.

Waveland: On Wednesday evening, the Silver Slipper treated volunteers to music and a barbecue dinner in the Twin Lakes Pavilion of Diamondhead.

Bay St. Louis: On Thursday, downtown merchants in Bay St. Louis honored the volunteers with live bands and shopping until late in the evening.

Other Friends: Each day, on-site meals were served by Habitat's longtime friend and partner, The Salvation Army. On-site first aid was provided by the local chapter of the Red Cross.

Hosting the hundreds of volunteers would not be possible, were it not for the accommodations provided by Lagniappe Presbyterian Church and Camp Coastal.

Bay-Waveland Area Habitat for Humanity thanks each of these individuals and groups and the many others who helped make this build a great success.
