GCCF Awards Grant to HFH Bay-Waveland
Habitat for Humanity Bay-Waveland Area recently received a $250,000 grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation to help build homes in Hancock County. HFH Bay-Waveland and ten other organizations were selected from a group of forty-four applicants to receive the awards, which totaled $2.1 million dollars.
“Gulf Coast Community Foundation is pleased to assist in gap funding of homes constructed by the Bay-Waveland Area Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity,” stated Jay Huffstatler, Project Manager for GCCF. “The staff and Habitat volunteers have continued to make strides in building affordable and sustainable housing for those residents of Hancock County affected by Hurricane Katrina.”

The Foundation has been a faithful partner with HFH Bay-Waveland, providing funding and support. This recent award will help finance ten homes that were built in the Diamondhead community during the 2008 Carter Work Project.
“It’s partners and friends like the Gulf Coast Community Foundation that make our work possible,” explained Wendy McDonald, Executive Director of HFH Bay-Waveland Area. “There are many houses and neighborhoods in our county that would still be vacant lots were it not for their support.”
To date, the Gulf Coast Community Foundation has awarded $700,000 to HFH Bay-Waveland Area to help build affordable housing for Hancock County families. |
